Bands, choirs unite to bring Christmas cheer

Holyoke bands and choirs worked together last Tuesday evening and put together a Christmas concert combining the fifth and sixth grade, junior high, and high school.

Beginning with simple tunes from the fifth and sixth grade such as “Rain, Rain,” James Lord Pierpont’s “Jingle Bells” and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s adaptation of “Twinkling Stars,” the concert transitioned into a performance by the junior high/high school chorus with Harry Simeone’s “The Little Drummer Boy,” Robert Batastini’s “Mary Had a Baby” and John W. Work Jr.’s “Go Tell it on the Mountain.”

A solo or duet capped off each group performance. After the sixth grade band, Ashton Robles sang Lauv’s “I Like Me Better,” and Jimena Nunez and Hannah Lindholm sang “California Dreamin’” by Michelle and John Phillips. Kai Siep, meanwhile, sang Drayton Farley’s “Pitchin’ Fits” after the junior high/high school chorus.
