Brandt begins student teaching

In 2016, Danielle Brandt walked across the stage as a graduate of Holyoke High School, this year she returns to her alma mater as a student teacher. For the first eight weeks, she’ll be working under fourth-grade teacher Melanie Wheeler. Following that, she will be under Wendy Grothman in the JR/SR high special education department.

Brandt is a second semester senior at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. While student teaching, she will complete her remaining coursework online for a December graduation with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education and special education. She will also be graduating with her Structured English Immersion endorsement for teaching ESL.

Though still early in the school year, Brandt also spent time in the classroom during the weeklong inservice that preceded the first day. It was an experience that gave her much insight into the preparation that goes into teaching. In the short time she’s been there, Brandt has already been impressed and encouraged by the collaboration among the third and fourth grade teachers.
