Adrian Canales was recognized at the beginning of the Holyoke School District Re-1J Board of Education meeting Tuesday, Feb. 7, when he was presented with his high school diploma.
Working through Holyoke Alternative High School, Canales was able to achieve his graduation credits. He acknowledged that it wasn’t easy to come back to school, but that’s what he wanted to do. He thanked those who supported his effort and made it possible.
Alternative School teacher Cindi Beavers acknowledged and commended the achievement and commitment by Canales to attain his high school diploma. Additionally, Principal Susan Ortner, Superintendent John McCleary and board members had the chance to shake his hand and wish him well.
Family members who attended the brief ceremony were his parents, Veronica Canales and Gaspar Mosqueda; sisters, Jessy and Jacky Mosqueda; grandmother, Mami Chayo; and family friends, Dusty and Ann McConnell.
