Candidates named for returning Snowball Dance at HHS

After about 20 years of dormancy, the Snowball Dance has come out of hibernation at HHS. The Dragon Hoopsters are sponsoring the winter formal Saturday, Jan. 28, from 8-11 p.m. in the old gym for the first Snowball Dance since the mid-1990s.

Crowning of the Snowball King and Queen will take place at 9 p.m. and is open to the public. Queen candidates are Brook Prottsman, Karen Nuñez and Tara Krueger, and king candidates are Brenden Kage, M.J. Taylor and Austin Herman.

Dragon Hoopsters member Marla Camblin said that there used to actually be four dances at HHS throughout the school year — Homecoming, the Snowball Dance, the Sweetheart Dance and Prom.

Over time, however, the Snowball and the Sweetheart fell by the wayside.

“The kids have been having so much fun at Homecoming and Prom,” said Camblin. “From what I hear, they’re excited about the Snowball Dance.”

Camblin said the Hoopsters will see how supported the dance is before deciding whether to sponsor it as an annual event. “If they come, we will provide,” she said.
