Class of 2020 announces plans, scholarships

Though the June 21 Holyoke High School graduation ceremony was shortened this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, graduates’ future plans and scholarships were announced in full on the radio during the May 17 senior parade. Class members were awarded a total of $1.7 million in scholarships and grants.

Victor Manuel Baeza Villalobos plans to attend Colorado School of Mines in Golden and major in mechanical engineering. He received the V.F.W. Zeiler-Owens-Lindsay Post 6482 Four-Year Scholarship.

Lauren Marie Bergner plans to attend Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, Wyoming, and major in agricultural communications. She received the EWC Lancer Incentive, EWC Border State Inventive, EWC Black and Gold Lancer Scholarship, EWC Kenyon Family Scholarship, EWC First Generation Scholarship, Highline Electric Association Two-Year College Scholarship, National FFA Leadership Scholarship, FCCLA Leadership Scholarship, Challenger 4-H Scholarship, The Garry Haynes Memorial Scholarship, The Livestock Exchange Scholarship, Kurtis Huss Memorial Scholarship, Holyoke Friends of the Library Scholarship, P.E.O. Chapter BM Scholarship, Jolly Dozen FCE Scholarship, FFA Alumni Scholarship and Don Fix Memorial Scholarship.

Hunter Dylan Bergstrom plans to attend South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota, and major in natural resource law enforcement.

Slaten Crew Burris plans to attend University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and major in sports and exercise science. He received the UNC Provost Scholarship, UNC Founders Grant, Colorado Student Grant, Highline Electric Scholarship, and Mary Ann and Joel S. Biddle Scholarship.

Maxim Medel Cano plans to attend Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, Kansas, and major in Welding.

Luis Mario Chafino Granados  plans to attend Colorado State University-Pueblo and major in wildlife management. He received the Federal Pell Grant, Colorado Student Grant, Commitment to Colorado Grant, Colorado First Generation Grant, Colorado Student Work Study Grant, Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship, and Stanley and Shirley Travis Scholarship.

Caleb Jennings Deaver plans to attend Doane University in Crete, Nebraska, and major in strategic communications followed by flight school for his pilot’s license. He received the Doane University Board of Trustees Scholarship, Doane University Baseball Scholarship, Northern Arizona University Founders Blue Tuition Scholarship and Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship.

Deacon Dawsen Dittmer plans to pursue being a professional caddy throughout the world.

Alycia Faith Franklin plans to travel and do independent study.

Brenna Rose Gatton plans to attend University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and double major in business and fine arts.

Fabian Gonzalez plans to attend University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and major in business administration. He received the Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship and Fred and Ella Kropp Family Education Trust Scholarship.

Tayler Lanae Hale plans to attend University of Colorado Colorado Springs and major in visual arts. She received the Hutt Family Education Trust Scholarship, Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship, Holyoke FCCLA Senior ROSE Award Scholarship, Cassidy Hale Memorial Scholarship and Don Fix Memorial Scholarship.

Isaiah James Hatton plans to live in Denver and hopefully get into a day program.

Josephine Frances Herman  plans to attend University of Nebraska-Lincoln and major in psychology, pre-occupational therapy. She received the George Beadle Scholarship, Nebraska Housing Credit, Ruth Leverton Scholarship, Carolyn J. and Dennis J. O’Neal Scholarship, Gracey Memorial Athletic Scholarship, CSU Green and Gold Scholarship, and Spalding University Scholarship.

Remington J Hielscher plans to attend Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to get a lineman certificate with an associate degree in applied science. He received the Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship, Grace Ferguson Memorial Scholarship, Early Applicant Grant and Academic Scholarship.

Traeli Shona Hutches plans to attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins and major in chemistry (pre-dentistry). She received the Melissa Memorial Foundation Legacy Scholarship, Len Balderson Education Scholarship Trust and Seaboard Community Scholarship.

Emily Rose Meiyi Jelden plans to attend University of Nebraska Kearney and major in elementary education with an emphasis in special education. She received the UNK Teachers Scholarship Academic Award, Velma Biddle Memorial Scholarship, Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship, Kansas State University Founders Non-Resident Merit Award, Doane University Annual Tuition Scholarship, Doane University Basketball Scholarship and UNC Northern Light Scholarship.

Morganne Ashlyn Kumm plans to attend Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas, and major in equine production and management. She received the Colby Community College Equestrian Scholarship.

Mason Mitchell King plans to attend Front Range Community College in Westminster and major in horticulture. He received The Colorado Grant and The Ballyneal Foundation Scholarship.

Janessa Sue Lutze plans to attend Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and major in animal science. Citlali Cecilia Marquez plans to attend Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin, and major in business administration/marketing. Shianne Willmon plans to attend Central Community College in Grand Island, Nebraska, and major in sociology. Alondra Zapata plans to get an apprenticeship in the manga industry.
