FCCLA celebrates successful year

With an increase in membership and a dedicated officer team, the Holyoke FCCLA chapter had reason to celebrate a successful year at its annual member recognition program Monday, April 29, in the Holyoke junior high commons area.
“You are the change-makers. ... Be proud of who you are,” said adviser Karen Ortner in a word of encouragement to members. “FCCLA fosters positive change in individuals, families and communities to better the quality of life.”
The 18 FCCLA members were recognized for their contributions in the school and community this year.
Lauren Bergner earned the Member of the Year Award.
Cash Adler was the only senior to be awarded a plaque for his four years in the organization.
Seniors Savannah Burris and Kyra Loutensock were presented with the inaugural FCCLA Leadership Scholarships, which were chosen by the Family and Consumer Science Advisory Committee.
This was also the first year that all of Ortner’s students were required to complete STAR event projects, regardless of FCCLA membership. Jacky Mosqueda, who worked tirelessly on the Student Body Anti-Clique Project and Random Acts of Kindness Day, was recognized with an honorary FCCLA membership.
Jes-c French was honored with the Friend of FCCLA award, and members thanked this year’s chapter parents: Gloria Bergner, Jessica Cumming and Laura Loutensock.
