FCCLA cites funding need for upcoming food packaging event

An updated status of the food packaging events to be coordinated by Holyoke High School’s FCCLA chapter Oct. 17 was presented at the Tuesday, Sept. 18, school board meeting by members Brenna Gatton, Ashlyn Marcum and Cash Adler, as well as adviser Karen Ortner.
The members emphasized to the board that the FCCLA chapter is willing to help the district in any way to show that students support the community as a whole.
Adler went on to note that last year’s Feeding Hungry Children Project raised funds to prepare for the upcoming packaging events.
Challenges have arisen with the need to change food packaging companies. With this change, the new company, “Something to Eat,” is asking for a $1,600 logistics fee to cover the personnel and shipping costs of their three-day journey to Holyoke and back.
Donations will come back to Holyoke in the form of three-four meals per dollar in local foodbanks, depending on how close they are to the total goal of $11,600.
