FCCLA project promotes recycling

Two Holyoke High School sophomores are working to raise awareness about recycling — and helping to keep their community clean in the process.

As part of their FCCLA sustainable communities project, Elly Brown and Aleida Millan coordinated a recycling walk day Friday afternoon, March 18.

Community members were invited to gather at the recycling bins in the 100 block of North Morlan Avenue and walk around town to pick up recyclable litter.

Brown said she used to live in Loveland, where recycling had a big impact, and she wants to increase community involvement in recycling in Holyoke.

“I just felt like we could be more effective,” she said, adding that part of the goal is to raise awareness about recycling.
