In a virtual awards presentation of the 2020 Colorado Family, Career and Community Leaders of America winners released Tuesday, May 5, Holyoke FCCLA was recognized with the financial fitness national program award, and local adviser Karen Ortner earned the district consultant award.

The financial fitness program engages members in teaching one another how to earn, spend, save and protect money wisely. The award presentation cited that the Holyoke chapter uses financial fitness as a roadmap through a journey to the state conference and leadership.

Ortner said that several Holyoke members completed this national program individually through the accountability-tracking point system in which members are held accountable for their contributions to chapter activities.

Fundraising profits are distributed according to the amount each member has contributed.

Twelve of Holyoke’s 17 chapter members had met or exceeded their goal of earning $200 by March through fundraisers.

In the announcement of Ortner’s district consultant award, she was described as a beloved and respected FCCLA adviser who has dedicated herself to providing guidance and leadership to members and other advisers.

“She has dedicated time and effort growing district leaders and advocating for FCCLA on a local and state level,” said Colorado FCCLA president Autumn Henson in announcing the award.
