FCCLA touts ‘Community Service’ in Fall Conference

Members of Holyoke’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America began showing their Christmas spirit at the Oct. 19 Northeastern Plains District Fall Conference, hosted by Wray High School with the theme, “Community Service.”

In total, about 260 people attended from Akron, Fort Morgan, Merino, Peetz, Haxtun, Holyoke, Wray, Yuma and Otis. The day consisted of eight district officer-run stations, each with a presentation or activity related to the FCCLA national program. From identifying community needs for individual projects, to dinner etiquette for time with one’s home community, members gained skills, ideas and service hours through a variety of activities. Alma Alejandre and Jimena Nunez of Holyoke, serving as the Northeastern Plains District secretary and president respectively, led a station promoting the hometown community as members made keychains and bracelets featuring school colors and mascots.
