FFA/FCCLA chapters hold record service sale

On March 6, over 400 community members attended the most successful FFA/FCCLA Service Sale in Holyoke JR/SR High School history. Advisers Shauna Strecker (FFA) and Karen Ortner (FCCLA) were once again amazed and humbled at the outstanding community support.

Seventy-two FCCLA and FFA members were auctioned off for eight hours of guaranteed work to the winning bidder. Freshman members were sold in pairs this year, with the buyer receiving eight hours of work from each of them.

Back for their second year in a row, auctioneers Aaron Schwartz and Wade Quibble quickly fired up the crowd and made it an incredibly successful auction. Several bids hit the $1,000 mark again this year.

At the end of the night, the average FCCLA member winning bid was $386, and the average FFA member winning bid was $860. The top sellers from each organization were junior Elyce Siseck for FCCLA at $650, and from FFA, sophomore Layna Wear at a whopping $4,000.

In total, the member auction brought in $49,600 for the two chapters. “We are blown away by the support our community continues to give to our students,” said Strecker.

Additionally, each chapter displayed its student projects during the evening and held silent auctions to benefit the ag shop fund. The shop projects brought in an additional $2,376, which will go directly to purchasing new tools and equipment for the shop.
