The Great Kindness Challenge

Holyoke Elementary students dedicate a week to spreading love

Throughout the week, Holyoke Elementary is joining in with schools across the world for The Great Kindness Challenge, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. From Jan 28.-Feb. 1, students are encouraged to perform as many kinds deeds as possible.
This is Holyoke’s first year to join the challenge, but it’s made an impact elsewhere in years before. In 2018, over 10 million students from 20,000 schools in 103 countries participated. It is estimated that over 500 million acts of kindness were completed in that week alone.
Every elementary student at Holyoke, from kindergarten to sixth grade, is trying to finish 50 kind deeds by the end of the week. They’re doing things like smiling at others, writing nice notes to peers, thanking teachers or volunteers, making new friends, complimenting others and helping younger kids.
Each class is also performing a group act of kindness. It might involve making nice posters or cards, picking up trash or taking sweet treats for the teachers lounge.
