Holyoke featured in national report on Homegrown Talent Initiative

Holyoke School District has received recognition and is prominently featured as an example district in the Center on Reinventing Public Education’s national report on Homegrown Talent Initiative.

HTI is a statewide partnership that supports regional cohorts of communities to create homegrown, work-based learning experiences aligned to the needs of their community. HTI is facilitated by Colorado Succeeds and the Colorado Education Initiative.

“We have really motivated staff,” said HTI lead coordinator Summer Maloney, emphasizing that it takes a large number of people to make HTI successful.

Holyoke School District Superintendent Kyle Stumpf said part of HTI’s design is to build a better partnership with the school district and community businesses. This has led to a rethinking of how students leave high school and redefined what success is — which can change from student to student.

Attending a four-year college after high school graduation is not a fit for every student, and work in trades can lead students to success in high-demand jobs.

The CRPE has been closely  tracking the progress of Holyoke and seven other rural Colorado districts as part of a three-year evaluation of HTI.
