Holyoke JR/SR High hosts 10-school annual honor band
Holyoke High School hosted its annual honor band Monday, Jan. 28, drawing student musicians from 10 schools to perform under the direction of Fort Collins-area educators Kenyon Schuerman and Phuong Nguyen.
High school representatives included Anna Chaney, trumpet; Jacky Mosqueda, alto saxophone; Keegan Shaw, bassoon; and Emali Torres, clarinet. Representatives from Holyoke Junior High included Alma Alejandre, flute; Elly Brown, alto saxophone; Emmy Brown, flute; Elise Krogmeier, tenor saxophone; Jimena Nuñez, flute; and Tamara Penzing, clarinet.
Schuerman, director of bands at Rocky Mountain High School, led the older group of 47 students. He earned his master’s degree in music education from the American Band College at Central Washington University and plays trombone with the Exquisite Brass Quintet and Fort Collins Wind Symphony.
Pieces were selected from “Chimes of Liberty,” Mahler’s Symphony No. 3, “Synthesis” and “The Cave You Fear.”
