Holyoke named outstanding chapter in virtual FBLA national conference

The Holyoke FBLA national qualifiers gathered together July 12 at the house of adviser Lori Nelson. National FBLA was originally planned the first week of July in Salt Lake City, Utah. However, the conference was instead held remotely because of COVID-19. Over 10,000 students competed. Competitors enjoyed snacks and games at Nelson's house and were given their Colorado state awards.

The 2020 virtual conference included opening and closing remarks, keynote speaker, adviser tribute, FBLA year in review, announcement of new national officers and announcement of the 2020-21 theme, which is “Aspire.” There were 87 chapters across the United States named as outstanding chapters, and Holyoke FBLA was named as one of those.

The following students competed virtually in May and June: Lali Marquez, Caleb Deaver and Lauren Herman, community service; Kylie Purkeypile, Emily Trejo and Tamara Penzing, local chapter annual business report; Alma Alejandre and Jimena Nuñez, 3D animation; Johny Quintana, introduction to business communications; Emmanuel Vasquez, journalism; and Diego Jimenez, introduction to information technology.
