Holyoke School District selected for Homegrown Talent Initiative

Holyoke School District Re-1J was one of eight districts to be named a participant in the Homegrown Talent Initiative — a statewide partnership that supports regional cohorts of communities to create homegrown, work-based learning programs aligned to the needs of the local community.

The district will collaborate to design and implement ways to tap into the potential of local talent while students are still in middle and high school. Addressing the dynamic changes in Colorado, HTI will help build homegrown opportunity and pathways to serve the unique needs of business and industry in their local community.

This grant will provide money and time this year to plan and prep, then three years to implement, Superintendent Kyle Stumpf told the school board Tuesday, Nov. 5.

This year, the district will receive $15,000 to put together and pay for time with community business leaders, then to provide funds to maintain the program over the next three years.

Stumpf pointed out that the district has been focused on developing alternative pathways for Holyoke High School students, partnering with Northeastern Junior College, BOCES and Phillips County Economic Development.
