Josh Schroetlin receives Boettcher Foundation’s Teacher Recognition Award

An English teacher at Holyoke High School, Josh Schroetlin recently received the Boettcher Foundation’s Teacher Recognition Award. He was nominated for the honor by 2018 Boettcher Scholarship winner Luke Krogmeier.
The award is meant to recognize teachers for the important role they have played in shaping the educational experience and development of a Boettcher Scholar. According to the foundation, teachers have one of the most important and impactful jobs there is.
Krogmeier was a student in Schroetlin’s class for all four years of his time at Holyoke High School. Classes included both Advanced Placement literature and composition, as well as college composition.
During his ninth-grade English class, Krogmeier explained, Schroetlin was the first teacher he encountered who treated students as “fellow thinkers” rather than mere students. Schroetlin’s willingness to consider the opinions of his students made Krogmeier want to share in class. Such an atmosphere also made the class as a whole more open to conversing, he said.
