Mackay is a voice for Colorado students during pandemic

What do adults need to know from students as school begins in a COVID-19 world? Amy Mackay, a senior at Holyoke High School, was one of 10 students from around the state who weighed in on the subject last week.

The student leaders were invited to participate in a virtual panel discussion about the coming school year and life during the pandemic Wednesday, Aug. 12.

More than 170 parents, teachers and community leaders logged in to watch and listen to the discussion, which was hosted by Chalkbeat Colorado, the Gates Family Foundation and the Colorado Education Initiative.

Students expressed frustration about not knowing what classes will look like this fall, worries over their family or themselves getting COVID-19, and concerns that their voices are not being incorporated into school plans.
