MMH Foundation announces scholarship awards

The Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation has awarded four new scholarships and renewed two scholarships to previous recipients for the 2023-2024 school year.

Ethan Schneller was awarded the Charla Berry Memorial Scholarship, which was founded in memory of Berry by her family who has awarded this scholarship for 22 years to Holyoke High School graduates pursuing a degree in healthcare. Schneller will be attending Oklahoma State University in the Fall. His anticipated major is Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and his ultimate goal is to become a genetic engineer who works with GMOs or become a pediatric dentist.

Tamara Penzing was awarded the Winona Rouze Nursing Scholarship. Penzing will be attending Southeast Community College in the Fall and pursuing a degree in Surgical Technology. The Rouze Scholarship was first awarded in 2011 by her family in memory of Winona and the care she provided for many years as a nurse at MMH.

The Legacy Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Jaxson Hutches. The Legacy scholarship was created in 2012 and is funded through the annual Legacy Events. Hutches will attend Colorado State University in the Fall and plans to earn a degree in Healthcare Administration. This scholarship is funded through the annual Legacy Events hosted by the MMH Foundation.

Sarah Bornhoft was selected for the Gloria Heinitz Scholarship, which is provided to a current employee that has worked at Melissa Memorial Hospital for at least a year, and they are continuing their education. It is also funded through the annual Legacy Events and is in honor of Gloria Heinitz who retired from MMH after serving for almost 45 years as a nurse. Bornhoft is enrolled in New Mexico Junior College and is taking online courses to complete her Bachelor’s Degree for Business Administration and Accounting.
