NHS brings in 13 new members

The Holyoke High School student body and community gathered together on the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 15, to witness the induction of 13 new members into the Holyoke High School Chapter of the National Honor Society. Guests were welcomed at the school auditorium by Honor Society President Kai Siep and then the organization’s officers explained the four pillars of the Honor Society: scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Following an explanation of what it take to be in the Honor Society, the current members presented the new members, taking time to highlight their accomplishments in high school. Aside from all members meeting the minimum 3.5 grade-point average, their leadership, service and character were mentioned in their introductions.

Among the new members are the District president of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America; a student who works young children at the annual cheer clinic; another who has volunteered with Operation Christmas Child; the District 4 Future Business Leaders of America secretary; a young lady who volunteered on a park clean-up crew; a young man who traveled out of state to help with disaster clean up; lifeguards; babysitters; a student who led fundraising efforts for a friend’s memorial; and students who have donated blood, helped host athletic camps for children, help prepare taxes and participated in 4-H.

Honor Society Vice President Ethan Schneller invited the new, current and alumni members of the organization to join him in the Honor Society pledge and reminded each of them with nobility comes obligation.

Siep returned to the stage and reminded the new members that it takes a village to raise a child and encouraged the new members to thank everyone who had helped them accomplish their goals in life.
