Pumpkin day carves out fun for elementary students

While Halloween brings its own thrills and chills, the thrill of the pumpkin day at Holyoke Elementary School was figuring out just exactly how to carry a pumpkin. Students balanced them on their heads, held on tight to the stems or simply cradled it like precious cargo. Third-graders Allison Gibson, at left, and Taige Chappell realize just how heavy pumpkins can be at the end of the school day Friday, Oct. 26. Just in time for Halloween, the pumpkins were carried home for carving or decorating. The annual tradition was sponsored by Bank of Colorado, Bank of the West, CHS Grainland, First Pioneer National Bank, Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union and PC Telcom, with the pumpkins grown at Pumpkins and More A-maiz-ing Farm. Representatives from each business helped hand out the pumpkins to the excited students.
