Re-1J approves deferred expulsion

On a 6-1 vote, the Holyoke School District Re-1J Board of Education approved a deferred expulsion agreement at a special meeting Monday, Oct. 16.
After a two-hour executive session, the motion was made in open session to approve the agreement, contingent upon acceptance by the family. Board member Pat Wiebers cast the dissenting vote.
The special meeting was called to confer with an attorney to consider a request regarding an individual student expulsion matter.
The closed session began with all seven board members and Superintendent John McCleary, who made the recommendation on the deferred expulsion agreement.
McCleary then left the session, and the board was in phone conference with their attorney. McCleary was called back in two times to clarify questions.
A brief regular meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 17, and will be reported in next week’s Enterprise.
