Re-1J beginning fund balance returns to $1.23M

Audit figures for 2017-18 for Holyoke School District Re-1J showed an ending fund balance of $1,231,515 to start the 2019-20 year.
After a drop in the general fund balance to $952,907 a year ago, the school board was pleased to hear about the anticipated increase from auditor Scott Szabo of Lauer, Szabo & Associaties, PC at a special board meeting Wednesday, Dec. 12.
Other than the slight dip last year, the general fund balance has remained steady for the past five years.
Referencing some four-year trends, Szabo cited that the district’s funded pupil count has stayed roughly the same, which is a good sign. The funded count was 588.5 in 2015, 593.8 in 2016, 589.2 in 2017 and 587.4 in 2018.
The assessed valuation for 2018-19 was up slightly ($66,589) from a year ago, to $75,898,470.
