Re-1J free, reduced meal eligibility announced

Holyoke School District officials will use the Colorado Department of Education household size and income criteria for determining eligibility for free or reduced-price school meals for the 2019-20 school year.

The CDE school nutrition unit has announced the policy for determining eligibility of children who may receive free and reduced-price school meals served under Colorado school food authorities that participate in the National School Lunch and/or School Breakfast Programs.

Applications for free and reduced-price school meals, instructions and an informational letter to households are available at the Holyoke School District administration office at 435 S. Morlan Ave. They will be sent to all households and parents are requested to bring the completed applications to the Aug. 15 registration day.

Applications may be submitted any time during the school year. Those who are not eligible now but have a decrease in income, become unemployed, have an increase in family size or become eligible for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families or migrant benefits may fill out an application at that time.

The school district has a copy of the complete policy which may be reviewed by any interested party.

Only one application is required for all children in the household. The information provided on the application is confidential and will be used only for the purpose of determining eligibility and verifying data. Immigration, migrant, citizenship or refugee status is not required to be provided during the application process.

The application does require the last four numbers of a Social Security number or an indication that there is no Social Security number. This information is not reported to any organization outside of the school district.
