Re-1J reviews timelines for BEST project, energy performance

Progress is being marked as the Holyoke School District Re-1J Board of Education studied timelines for the Building Excellent Schools Today project, as well as the energy performance contract at the Nov. 17 board meeting.

Approval was given for the owners representative’s agreement with Artaic Group for the construction project.

During the meeting, Artaic Group’s Ryan Smelker and Sara Lara said they’re in the process of hiring a design build team.

A walk-through was completed Nov. 13, interview invitations will be sent to the short-listed candidates Dec. 2, and interviews will be conducted Dec. 8. The candidate will be notified of selection Dec. 11, with a notice to proceed projected for Dec. 14.

Design and permitting is projected to take eight and a half months from December to August of 2021. The timeline targets construction from March through December of 2021, including three months in the summer and partial projects during the school years.

Superintendent Kyle Stumpf noted that in addition to securing a design build team, they’re also putting out bids for an engineer to do asbestos testing.

In a virtual work session following the board meeting, Will Benish and Kathleen Pratt of Schneider Electric presented a project recap and projected timelines for the district’s energy performance contract.

In November and December, a complete site evaluation for the automation and controls will be completed to prepare for installation next spring.
