Resignations, retirement approved for school district

Resignations from Holyoke JR/SR High Principal Shane Walkinshaw and K-6 special education teacher Sam Distefano as well as retirement for fourth grade teacher Kimberlee Bennett were approved at the brief meeting of the Holyoke School Board on Monday, Feb. 24.

The board retreat, originally scheduled for Monday night, was postponed until Monday, March 2, at Holyoke Golf Course clubhouse.

The resignations will be effective at the end of the current contracts, which are June 30 for Walkinshaw and May 22 for Distefano.

While Bennett’s retirement will be effective at the end of the current school year, she will work two 110-day contracts through the 2020-21 year before leaving her position.

Allie Balog’s resignation from her extra-duty assignment of head JH track coach was also approved.
