School’s out, bike safety’s in

Nothing says summer vacation like riding bikes, and now that Alexis Raymond has a new helmet and training from the pros, she’s ready for it. On Friday, May 25, Holyoke Schools were dismissed for summer break at noon. Immediately after dismissal, a bicycle safety program was held at Holyoke Elementary. Throughout the afternoon, kids 12 and under were fitted with new helmets and taught the basics of bike safety, including hand signals to show whether they’re turning right or left or stopping. Holyoke Police Chief Doug Bergstrom, pictured at left, was one of the instructors. Other volunteers came from sponsors Holyoke Lions Club, Holyoke EMS, Melissa Memorial Hospital, Holyoke Police Department, Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department and Holyoke Elementary School.
