School district approves substitute pay increase

During the Holyoke School District Re-1J monthly strategic meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 4, the board approved an update to the school district substitute teacher pay. The increase, effective Oct. 1, 2022, will update substitute pay as follows: general substitute from $95 per day to $105 per day, advanced substitute from $105 per day to $120 per day, licensed teacher substitute $150 per day, and long-term substitute $150 per day after 10 days in a row. 

With the board increasing substitute teacher pay, it is more competitive with neighboring school districts’ substitute pay. Haxtun pays $120 per day. Wray pays $105 per day without certification and $115 with certification. Julesburg pays $100 per day without certification and $125 with certification and any Bachelor of Arts degree. Chase County, Nebraska, pays $140 per day without certification and $210 for long-term substitutes.
