School open house to thank community for MLO support

By way of saying “thank you” to the Holyoke community for supporting the mill levy override election in November, Holyoke School District Re-1J is planning an open house Thursday, March 5, from 5-6:30 p.m., to showcase various educational aspects.

The MLO money supports technology, keeping transportation fleets updated and helping retain quality staff.

A full-scale showcase plan is in place at both the elementary school and the JR/SR high March 5.

At the close of the open house, at 6:30 p.m., Jamie Soucie from the Colorado School Safety Resource Center will be talking about mental health in the high school auditorium.

The following activities/items will be part of next Thursday’s open house:

 

At the elementary school

­— Promethean panel in Kari Vasa’s first grade classroom.

— Book fair in multipurpose room.

— Art displayed in hallways.

— Technology projects in Chandra Parker’s technology classroom.

— Social/emotional examples for parents in Tarah Priddy’s third grade classroom.

— Visible learning in Melanie Wheeler’s fourth grade classroom.

— Math ideas in Tancy King’s first grade classroom.

— English as a second language information in Yesenia Bencomo’s ESL classroom.

— Reading ideas in Kristie Pelle’s resource classroom.

— Babysitting services for children younger than kindergarten in Theresa Tharp’s fifth grade classroom.

— Kindergarten practice letters, sounds, numbers, sight words in Cyndi Bahler’s kindergarten classroom.

— Minibus in front of the elementary school.

 

At the JR/SR high school

— Art gallery in Jade Goldenstein’s high school art room.

— GED program by Cindi Beavers in the alternative school.

— Science/lab in Ashley Clayton’s rooms 116 and 118.
