Students of the Month

Students of the Month for January at Holyoke JR/SR High School have been named. They are senior Ethan Andersen, nominated by English teacher Elizabeth Hutches, and eighth grader Sebastien Lopez, nominated by resource teacher Wendy Grothman.

The nomination letter for Andersen read, “I would like to nominate Ethan Andersen for the HCOC Student of the Month award. Ethan is always respectful to staff and students and has been blessedly helpful to me as a new teacher. He is ready to pitch in and help wherever needed and does it with an integrity that will benefit him long after he graduates from Holyoke High School. Most recently he stepped up to help the freshman Ag class make pickles and then assisted in moving old bleacher wood out of the gymnasium for the renovation, both jobs many would shy away from. During his quarantine, I could always count on Ethan taking responsibility to communicate, login, and get his assignments done. He is RISE-ing to excellence as his time at HHS draws to a close and I have enjoyed getting to have him as a student.”

Lopez’s letter read, “Sebastien is a very humble and caring young man. He is always respectful to teachers and his peers. Sebastien wants to help other students when they are struggling on assignments. He shines as an example of R.I.S.E behavior everyday. Sebastien is a great role model, mentor, and deserves to be recognized.”
