Students of the Month
Students of the Month for September at Holyoke JR/SR High School have been named. They are senior Colby Purkeypile, nominated by art teacher Rhonda Smith, and eighth-grader Alma Alejandre, nominated by science teacher Ashley Clayton.
Purkeypile’s letter read, “I would like to nominate Colby Purkeypile for Student of the Month. Colby quietly and without pomp and circumstance demonstrates RISE on a daily basis. I have a student with a disability in the same class as Colby, and Colby amazes me with techniques and conversation he uses to engage and help this student. And he does it as a natural act of kindness, not expecting any recognition or reward for his deed. In addition, during homecoming week, as we were disassembling the freshman float, Colby came over to lend us a hand without asking anything in return. He is truly a good-hearted, caring person and definitely deserves recognition for Student of the Month.”
Alejandre’s nomination letter read, “Alma Alejandre is an outstanding example of a student who chooses to get the most out of her education here at Holyoke JR/SR High School. Day in and day out she goes above and beyond the standard to ensure that she is not only turning in the highest quality work but also gaining the most that she can out of every experience. She is the epitome of an active learner. Whether, it is a lab we are doing or simply taking notes, Alma is on top of her game no matter what. She is always willing to share her answers and help explain topics to her peers. She is a joy to have in class and an outstanding example of what it means for a student to RISE to Excellence.”
