Sullivan awarded Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship

Holyoke High School senior Brenna Sullivan will be getting a full scholarship to the University of Colorado Boulder this fall after being awarded by the Western Golf Association’s Evans Scholars Foundation.
The Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship is awarded to student caddies on the basis of grades, character and financial need. It pays tuition and offers housing support for students and is valued at $120,000 if renewed for the maximum four years.
Sullivan, daughter of Holyoke’s Jeff and Olga Sullivan, worked as a caddie at Ballyneal Golf Club for three summers and earned a 4.0 GPA last semester, making the superintendent’s honor roll. She was awarded after interviewing in front of the scholarship’s 112-person board Jan. 29.
Sullivan follows in the footsteps of her sister Cierra and cousin Jared Sullivan, both of whom received the Chick Evans Scholarship after tenures as Ballyneal caddies.
Another current Evans Scholar from HHS is Xander Nelson.
Sullivan said she will be majoring in chemistry or biology at CU and will be living in the Evans Scholars House with other awardees.
“Each of these deserving Evans Scholars epitomizes what our program has been about since its creation in 1930,” said WGA chairman Frank Morley. “Their dedication, hard work and sacrifice is humbling, and we are honored to be able to help them pursue their dreams.”
The Jan. 29 selection meeting at Lakewood Country Club was one of more than 20 such meetings the Evans Scholars Foundation will hold across the country through the spring. When the 2018-19 selection meeting process is completed by April, an estimated 280 caddies are expected to be awarded the Evans Scholarship.
