14 returning letterwinners lead HHS track

HHS track runs 40 students strong for the 2017 season, up from last year’s 27-member team. A full 14 returning letterwinners lead the group.
Letterwinners for the girls include senior Brook Prottsman, junior Taylor Hendrix and sophomores Kaylee Camblin, Jillian Hunter, Kyra Loutensock, Jessy Mosqueda and Emma Roll. Boys are seniors Brenden Kage, Alex Strauss, José Prieto and Edwin Cruz; and juniors Matt Yost, Zach Overton and Jarrett Woodhead.
Head coach Dusty Sprague said he is looking forward to watching the team compete this year. “I’m excited about the number and quality of kids out,” he said.
There is a handful of tracksters on the team that have state competition experience now, and they are looking to grow that number.
They will also be continuing with the pole vault, a new feature at HHS’s track last year. Sprague said this year’s team includes a few strong freshmen in that event.
In shot and discus, anonymous donors have aided in bringing HHS’s throwing areas up to current state regulation. In efforts to perfect the facility, the throwing areas are now the required 2 inches longer, and there is new fencing and a new shot put toe board in place.
