2 Holyoke swimmers qualify for Coaches Invite

Given the recent weather conditions, there have been plenty of disruptions to everyday life and the swim team was no exception. Holyoke High School swimmers did not get to compete in the Dec. 13 Patriot League Relays in Fort Collins, Colorado, as originally planned, and several days of practice were interrupted.

Nevertheless, Tayla Martin and Summer Martin both qualified for and competed in the Dec. 17 Coaches Invite at Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton, Colorado.

“The girls both swam very well, especially with all of the snow days and lack of practices,” Coach Emily Krogmeier said. “I’m so proud of the girls for conquering those obstacles, but going out and swimming close to some of their best times.”

The Coaches Invite has qualifying times, so not every swimmer is eligible to compete in it. Tayla and Summer both had qualifying times, and had the chance to compete against some of the best swimmers in the region, including many from 5A schools.

Tayla competed in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking at time of 1:03.55. She also competed in the 50-yard freestyle with a 0:26.02. Summer competed in the 200-yard freestyle, but was disqualified due to movement at the start.

Holyoke swim team will return in the new year starting with the Wiedeman Invite at Greeley Rec Center at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7.
