4 letterwinners return to lead HHS girls golf team

Friday, March 23, will mark the first tournament of the Holyoke High School girls golf team’s 2018 season, beginning at 9 a.m. at Quail Dunes Golf Club in Fort Morgan. With just a weekend’s worth of reprieve, they will travel again Monday, March 26, teeing off in Brush at 10 a.m.
Coaches Marcia Dalton and Nick Flaa return this year as co-coaches for the 14 athletes out for golf, joined by volunteer coach Audrey Ault. Dalton said, “I’m very excited about the upcoming season and all of the amazing girls that are out for golf. We are pretty blessed as coaches when it comes to our athletes.”
Returning letterwinners leading this year’s team are seniors Grace Dille, Dominique Penzing and Regan Van Overbeke and junior Brenna Sullivan. Also on the team are senior Anna Jelden; juniors Sloane Bishop, Kaylee Camblin and Savannah Burris; sophomores Traeli Hutches, Jackie Valenzuela, Tayler Hale, Amy Mackay and Ciera Schelling of Haxtun; and freshman Haley Van Overbeke.
Coaches noted that the returning letterwinners made up Holyoke’s 2017 regional team, including Dille, who also qualified for state last year. On the other hand, Flaa and Dalton are also excited to see the number of new golfers out this year. Seven are new to the team, and many of them have little golf experience. Coaches are “thrilled that there is enthusiasm to learn and play the game of golf.”
