4 qualify for state swim in 400-yard freestyle relay

Pointing out that the Lady Dragons swam at three meets in five days, coach Emily Krogmeier was happy to note that the team of Summer Martin, Tayla Martin, Adison Goldenstein and Josie Schlachter qualified for 3A state swimming in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

They qualified with a third-place finish at the Patriot League Relays in Fort Collins on Monday, Dec. 13. At the same meet, that team earned first place in the 200-yard medley relay.

Prior to that, the Lady Dragons competed at an Eaton meet on Thursday, Dec. 9, and at the Five Star Relays in Thornton on Saturday, Dec. 11.

Tayla Martin earned first place in Eaton in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. Summer Martin earned first in the 500-yard freestyle.

The Holyoke team finished in third with 42 team points at Eaton, sixth with 268 points at the Five Star Relays and third with 286 points at the Patriot League Relays.

Krogmeier said she is seeing some time drops from both new and seasoned swimmers on the team.
