Alliance hits 3 big homers, wins softball game

Dragon softball hosted its homecoming game and parents night Oct. 3. The evening featured a JV game followed by one varsity game against Alliance, Nebraska. In varsity action, the Alliance Bulldogs won 17-2.

In the first inning of the Thursday game, neither team scored, but Lauren Herman and Shianne Willmon each hit a single for the Dragons. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the second inning, including the team’s first of three big home runs.

The Dragons trailed 4-0 going into the third, where Alliance hit another Dinger and doubled its score. In the home half, Clover Adler scored a run, batted in on a single by Herman, taking the score to 8-1. Herman and Willmon each added a stolen base to the stat sheet as well.

The fourth inning was scoreless, but Victoria Race and Sirissa Casady each hit a single for Holyoke. In the fifth, the Bulldogs added three runs to the scoreboard. Herman hit a triple and went on to score a run for the Dragons, batted in on a single by Willmon.

Due to the mercy rule, the sixth inning ended up being the last. Alliance scored six more runs, including its third homer. Though Emma Thompson got on base with a single, the final score remained 17-2.

Sarah Razo pitched 5.2 innings against Alliance, facing 38 batters. She struck out three, walked two, and gave up 20 hits and 17 earned runs.
