Babe Ruth World Series action starts Friday
Rounding out their summer season, 16-18-year-old baseball players in the Babe Ruth league will travel from far and wide to play in the World Series in Mobile, Alabama, Aug. 2-9. Ten teams will be competing for the title, and one of those teams is traveling all the way from China.
While most of the games in the World Series will be played at Jacobs Field at the University of Mobile, one special game will be played at Hank Aaron Stadium as history is made. When the China team faces the Mobile team Aug. 2, it will mark the first time China has competed in the 16-18 Babe Ruth World Series.
Representing the Midwest Plains after winning the regional tournament are the Buckley Bombers. Though the team is based in Chappell, Nebraska, athletes from Holyoke, Haxtun, Wray, Wiggins, Akron, Ovid, Sterling, Stoneham and Chappell make up the roster.
From Aug. 2-6, there will be four games each day in which teams play within their own division. The Bombers are scheduled to play the following games in the American Division:
— Saturday, Aug. 3, at 12:30 p.m. against New England.
— Sunday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. against China.
— Monday, Aug. 5, at 3 p.m. against Southeast.
— Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 6:30 p.m. against Mobile.
Regions in the National Division are Ohio Valley, Southwest, Pacific Southwest, Pacific Northwest and Middle Atlantic.
