Baseball team starts season with doubleheader wins

On March 18, the Holyoke High School baseball team opened its season with a doubleheader in Byers. Across both games, Holyoke never gave up a hit, and the Dragons brought home a 22-1 win and an 18-3 win.
“Things went about as well as we could have hoped for for the first game,” Head Coach Jimmy French said. “It was good to actually get out and play against another team.”
This year’s baseball team has a large amount of returning talent as well as a few new faces. Seniors leading the group are Angel Carrasco, Ty Dirks and Kai Siep; juniors are Jerren Hunter, Caiden Krueger, Tyson Mosenteen, Isaiah Rueter, Caden Sporhase, Wyatt Sprague, Carter Van Overbeke and Cash Weber; sophomores are Irving Dominguez, Eduardo Hermosillo, Cody Maloney, Mason Powell, Carson Sheppard-Hein and Reid Sprague; and freshmen are Cozner Deaver-Ring, Gustavo Goytia, Edwin Perez Orona and Colby Weber.
Coaching alongside French are Assistant Coaches Zach Krueger and Cordell Walker.
With the 2-0 record spurring them on, the Dragons are looking ahead to the next couple of months of action.
“I know we have some bigger challenges ahead and we have a lot of work to do,” French said, “but I’m very happy with our start to the season.”
On Saturday, March 25, HHS will host the Haxtun Bulldogs in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
