Boys end season in Meeker
Boys basketball season came to an end Tuesday, March 9, after a 58-51 loss to Meeker in the first round of state playoffs. The Dragons’ final season record was 7-8.
Coach Marcus Kammer said he was happy that the team got a chance to play in the postseason, especially given the fact that summer basketball camps and practices weren’t an option this past year.
“There hasn’t been a lot of normal this season,” he said. “For a year where everything has been kind of a struggle, I’m not disappointed with their performance.”
He added that excuses have never been a part of the team or their makeup. He said the team will miss the seniors, but pointed out that there was a lot of growth and minutes out of the younger members of the team, and the team will bring back a lot of players for a lot of years to come.
“There was a lot of stuff thrown at these kids in a short period of time, but they were always ready to play,” said Kammer. He added that looking back at their schedule, many of the teams they played made it to the playoffs, and that makes him feel good about the league and the Dragons’ performance this season.
He acknowledged that the players handled themselves very well when it came to following guidelines this season, noting that they did a great job wearing their masks and making smart decisions about protecting themselves from COVID-19.
He said he feels good about how the players, school district, athletic department and coaching staff handled everything to keep people safe and make sure the season went off without a hitch.
