Boys, girls claim 2nd at home

Dragon athletes represented the green and gold well at their home track and field Holyoke Invitational on a sunny Thursday, May 27.

Holyoke boys finished in second place out of 15 teams with 122 points behind Sedgwick County’s 134 points.

Holyoke girls also earned second out of 15 with 90 points, trailing Sedgwick County with 110 points.

Coach Corey Koberstein said it was a good day overall — both hosting and competing. “I was proud of all of them,” he said, noting that the team gained a lot of confidence at this meet.

He said it was the first meet to have the full girls team competing, and he was pleased to see some of the athletes who have had injuries ease back into their events.

Several first-place finishes for the boys included Miles Sprague in the triple jump, Aaron Sierra in the 300 meter hurdles, Aidyn Shafer in the shot put, and the 4x400 meter relay team of Bryson Dirks, Cash Weber, Miles Sprague and Wyatt Sprague.

Top finishes for the girls included Correy Koellner in the shot put and Lauren Herman in the discus.
