Boys, girls win meet titles

In their last regular track meet of the season, both Holyoke teams claimed first place out of 12 teams at the HWAY Invitational in Akron on Saturday, June 19.

The boys earned 143 points, and the girls finished with 132 points.

“It gave us good confidence going into state track to win it handily on both sides,” said coach Corey Koberstein.

He said the boys competed at a high level throughout the day, and the girls dominated with first places in the three sprints and two throwing events.

Individuals earning top spots for the boys were Max Kleve in the 100 meter, Ivan Cummings in the 3,200 meter, Aaron Sierra in the 110 meter hurdles, Wyatt Sprague in the 300 meter hurdles, Bryson Dirks in the triple jump and Aidyn Shafer in the shot put. The first-place 4x400 meter relay team included Kleve, Miles Sprague, Sierra and Wyatt Sprague.

Girls who won individual events were Correy Koellner in the 100 meter, Tayla Martin in the 200 and 400 meter races and Lauren Herman in the shot put and discus. Also in first place was the 4x100 meter relay team of Audrey Talavera, Elly Brown, Martin and Koellner, and the sprint medley relay team of Tamara Penzing, Brown, Audrey Talavera and Elyce Talavera.
