Boys go 1-1 last week to start 2022

Dragon basketball won a game and lost a game last week to move to 6-2 on the season. They defeated Burlington 56-42 in front of the “Pink Out” home crowd on Friday, Jan. 7, and traveled to Yuma on Saturday, Jan. 8, where they lost 75-50.

Coach Colbey Stumpf called the Burlington game a good win after the holiday break, although he noted that the Dragons started slowly against both the Cougars and the Indians.

“We’ll be working on playing our game right away from the first quarter,” Stumpf said.

He pointed out that the Dragons came out and played a much better second half against Yuma, but he felt the team’s mindset wasn’t in the right place at times.

Looking ahead to Friday, Jan. 14, when Holyoke will host Wray in a league matchup, Stumpf said the Dragons are confident going into this game since they know what the Eagles are like and have a feel for how they play after competing against them Dec. 16.

“If we can get two halves together that were like the first half of the first game, I’m excited for what we can do,” Stumpf said of the upcoming Wray game.
