Boys golf begins

Dragon sports for 2021-22 officially kicked off with boys golf practice Monday, Aug. 2.

It will be a quick couple of days of practice before the local team’s opening tournaments Thursday and Friday, Aug. 5-6.

Four returning letterwinners lead the Dragon team with seniors Mason Vernon, Tristen Ferguson and Ethan Johnson; and junior Ty Dirks.

Other team members, as of Monday, include juniors Kai Siep, Jadon Frost, Cooper Goldenstein and Brendan Nelson; sophomores Chase Johnson, Carter Van Overbeke and Caiden Krueger; and freshman Ben Kleve.

David Mauler heads up the coaching duties this year, after having served as assistant with Nick Flaa for the past two years. Flaa will assist Mauler in coaching responsibilities as time allows.

Graduating no senior team members last year, Mauler said they’re hoping to build on what they had in the 2020 season.

“We’ll build on the strides from last year and hopefully get better,” said Mauler.

The season opens Thursday, Aug. 5, at the Brush Invite, followed by the Yuma tournament Friday, Aug. 6.
