Boys split first league games

Dragon boys varsity basketball played three road games last week, including their first two league matchups of the season.

On Feb. 2, they lost to Byers 66-59. They lost their first league game to Yuma 91-48 on Feb. 5. The Dragons beat Merino on Feb. 6 by a score of 47-41 to secure a league win and bring their overall record to 3-3.

Coach Marcus Kammer said the week held quite a few obstacles, considering the schedule of three consecutive road games.

“We played a lot of games in a short period of time,” Kammer said. He said they knew Miles Sprague was going to be out for the Byers game due to a medical procedure, and Kammer pointed out that his absence was felt as one of the leaders on the team.

He said that with their next game scheduled Friday, Feb. 12 with Akron, the Dragons will be using the time to get healthy, refocus, make adjustments and work on different player rotations moving forward.
