Boys split last week’s games

Boys varsity basketball picked up a loss and a win in last week’s action, losing a close game to Caliche 63-61 on Tuesday night, Feb. 16, and beating Sedgwick County 54-43 on Friday, Feb. 19, making their season record 6-4.

Coach Marcus Kammer pointed out that the Dragons got off to a slow start in both games, which is something they’ve been working to rectify.

“We’re still struggling starting basketball games,” he said. “The big push for this week is consistency at all levels of the game, but specifically in how we start basketball games.”

He added that the Dragons have great potential when they put four quarters together, and finding that level of consistency will be the team’s goal in upcoming games.

Holyoke 61, Caliche 63

Holyoke and Caliche were tied at nine after the first period, with Ethan Johnson scoring seven of the Dragons’ points in the quarter.

The Dragons then began to spread out the scoring, with five players getting Holyoke’s 11 second-quarter points. Holyoke trailed 26-20 at halftime. The Buffaloes doubled their lead after the third to make the score 47-35.
