Burlington can’t mess with Dragon offense

Vieselmeyer, Willmon are top scorers

The Lady Dragon offense shined in Holyoke’s 63-37 win over Burlington Friday, Jan. 10.

“Offensively, we got a lot of people involved,” said coach John Baumgartner, noting they’re going to need to continue doing that during the rest of the season. Holyoke goes into conference play this week with an 8-0 season record.

The team is playing good, unselfish basketball, he said. “As a coach, it’s fun to watch.”

Holyoke started the game off with 18 points in the first quarter, including 12 from sophomore Kristin Vieselmeyer. They added another 20 points in the second quarter, led by senior Shianne Willmon’s eight points.

Unfortunately, the defense got off to a slow start, and Baumgartner said the girls gave up some points they don’t normally give up in the first half. Burlington put 12 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter and nine in the second for a 38-21 Holyoke advantage at halftime.

Vieselmeyer scored half of the Dragons’ 16 points in the third, and they finished out the game with nine points, outscoring Burlington 25-16 in the second half.
