Chafino is champ; Trejo, Martinez, Dittmer also place

A fourth-place team finish, fueled by a champion, two runners-up and a third-placer made for a great wrestling tournament for HHS when they competed in the Banner County Invitational in Harrisburg, Nebraska, Saturday, Dec. 9.
“I am very pleased with the kids,” said coach Dusty McConnell, noting the improvement he saw from the previous week’s wrestling outing.
“We hope to stay the right course, headed to regionals and state qualification,” added McConnell.
Most of the Dragon wrestlers drew four or five matches Saturday for some good experience. With only one senior and three juniors, the Dragons have a young team, and the experience is key to their development.
Luis Chafino was 5-0 to take the 145-lb. championship Saturday.
Jesus Trejo at 138 lbs. and Antony Martinez at 195, both made it to the championship, where they fell to take runner-up honors. Trejo was 4-1 for the day, while Martinez was 3-1.
Deacon Dittmer finished third at 152 lbs., going 2-2 for the day.
McConnell was pleased with the fourth-place team finish that the Dragons earned with their 71 points.
