Chafino in top 4 at Lexington
HHS 145-lb. varsity wrestler Luis Chafino finished in fourth place at the highly-competitive John Higgins Invitational at Lexington, Nebraska, Saturday, Jan. 20.
Chafino won his first two matches before falling in the semifinals to the eventual champion. He came back for a win, then lost by decision in the match for third place.
Coach Dusty McConnell said he was very proud of Chafino taking fourth in the tourney. “This is the toughest tournament they’ll go to,” added McConnell, expressing pride in all the Dragon participants.
Also wrestling at the varsity level Saturday was Jesus Trejo, who went 1-2 for the day.
Seven other Dragons were bracketed into the John Higgins JV Invite Saturday at Lexington for some good competitive matches.
In the junior varsity tournament, Anthony Rojo placed second at 113 lbs., Andy Lopez fourth at 170 and Miguel Soto fifth at 132.
