Chafino, Trejo medal at Niwot Invitational

    Competition was keen at the Gary Daum Invitational at Niwot Saturday, Jan. 6, where Dragon wrestlers Luis Chafino and Jesus Trejo earned third- and fourth-place honors, respectively.
    Chafino lost a close 1-2 decision to the eventual 145-pound champion in the semifinals but went on to take third place.
    At 138 pounds, Trejo also lost to the eventual champion in the semis, then suffered a loss in his final match to place fourth.
    “It’s really good for our team to see tough competition,” said coach Dusty McConnell, adding that overall the team wrestled well.
    Tough matches help the team prepare for regionals, and they’re working hard to get ready for that, said the coach.
